City continues emergency repair project along Cooke St. in Kakaʻako

HONOLULU – The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Design and Construction is reminding area residents and businesses that construction work on a series of emergency repairs along Cooke St. in Kakaʻako is scheduled to continue for at least the next five weeks.

In late February, the City announced that it was reopening the intersection of Cooke St. and Halekauwila St. following successful repairs to a sinkhole beneath the roadway, but that additional repairs would be necessary to parts of Cooke St. that ran mauka from the intersection.

Those repairs, now taking place at the intersection of Ilaniwai St. and Cooke St., are scheduled to take place from Monday to Saturday, between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. The intersection will be closed during work hours.

There will be a temporary loss of street parking stalls and restricted access to a few private parking stalls at 614 Cooke Street during work hours. During non-working hours, one travel lane will be open in each direction. Some street parking will still be restricted and utilized to allow traffic through the work area.

The Department of Design and Construction expects this phase will take about five weeks, including at least one week for concrete curing. Repair crews will work efficiently and safely to minimize any inconvenience to the neighborhood.

Members of the Business and Constituent Educator team with the City’s Office of Economic Revitalization are conducting outreach to impacted businesses in the area, alerting them to resources that may be available to assist with construction impacts.

The City appreciates the patience of the community and small businesses during the emergency repair project.
