Applications Open for Idea2Biz Small Business Incubator Program
by: Mikey Monis
“Starting May 1, aspiring entrepreneurs on Oʻahu’s Leeward Coast can apply for a unique new program designed to transform ideas and informal side hustles into fully-fledged businesses. The Idea2Biz Small Business Incubator Program, spearheaded by the City and County of Honolulu’s Office of Economic Revitalization, is now accepting applications for its first-ever cohort.
Unlike traditional business accelerators that cater to already-established ventures, Idea2Biz is purpose-built for individuals who are still in the earliest stages of their entrepreneurial journey.
“The Small Business Startup Incubator Program is the City and County of Honolulu’s first-ever business incubator specifically designed for people with ideas or hobbies who want to formalize their businesses,” says Alyssa Goslee, Program Manager, City and County of Honolulu’s Office of Economic Revitalization.
What sets Idea2Biz apart is its emphasis on serving underserved communities and focusing on businesses that are still just ideas. Over the course of 13 weeks, participants will receive intensive training, personalized mentorship, and access to resources covering essential topics.
“Our team will be leading a crucial module on the basics and essentials of starting a business… with a focus on community connections and cultural understanding. Our sessions will introduce participants to the entrepreneurial mindset, basic business terminology, goal setting, and strategies to identify viable market opportunities,” says Shavone Lave, Program Director of the Waianae Economic Development Council (WEDC).
The program is looking for 20 motivated individuals from Oʻahu’s Leeward Coast — particularly those with informal businesses or budding ideas they’d like to explore further. Workshops will be held in person twice a month at the Kalanihoʻokahā Community Learning Center in Nanakuli, from June 17 through September 13.”
